In an interview with Shaq, Ice Cube shares his view on the unremitting beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Rap battles, he says, is the essence of the game, but cautions must be taken not to let the conflict escalate into something even more violent.
“Beefs are volatile… You always have to be careful that a beef doesn’t turn into a murder” ,
he said.
Ice Cube said the following, recognizing Kendrick Lamar’s present advantage in the beef:
“I think Kendrick is up, he’s landed the more hard & effective punches… don’t mean Drake can’t get off the canvas.”
He warned Kendrick to remain on his toes, which means that as much as Kendrick has the upper hand, Drake can still make a good comeback.

The rap legend also shared his concerns over the global exposure such feuds receive today, compared to rappers’ past beef, which mostly stayed within the confines of the hip-hop environment. Compared to this, he brought up the East Coast vs. West Coast rivalry in the 1990s and elaborated on the tragic endings those rivalries had and how crucial it is for people not to repeat history.
Overall, Ice Cube’s comments reflect a blend of appreciation for the competitive nature of rap battles and a cautious reminder of their potential consequences in the modern, globally connected world.
