Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will start Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks coming off foot surgery. This injury could have prolonged Wentz’s return even further making him return later in the regular season. There was tons of uncertainty about Wentz’s foot. He injured his foot on the second day of training camp, July 29th. He proceeded to have surgery shortly after on August 2nd, per sources.
The Colts predicted a five to 12-week recovery after his surgery. Wentz returned on August 23rd, just three weeks post-surgery.
“They had a flexible timetable, and I was aware of that,” Wentz stated recently. “I knew it depended on how the surgery went and various factors. But ultimately, I’m grateful to God for bringing me to this stage.”
Carson Wentz’s Tough Return
His return has been far from easy. He was absent for five days after being put on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to exposure from a teammate. Wentz is unvaccinated. One can assume, those days missed were valuable moments that could have been spent gaining chemistry with his wide receivers. He’s only had three full practices since training camp began. Colts’ head coach Frank Reich mentioned while the quarterback may not be the most important player for the franchise; they are definitely the key that begins to help change the direction in which the organization is going.
“You don’t like having to change quarterbacks every year, but then there is another professional growth side of it that you like doing it because it really challenges you to use the best of every player. But certainly, the quarterback is the key figure,” .
The newly acquired quarterback from the Philadelphia Eagles was brought in hopes that they could stop the revolving door of quarterbacks. Wentz is projected to be Colts’ fifth week 1 starter since 2017.
“I think of it as another opportunity,” Wentz said. “I believe God’s got lots of things going on in my life and he’s put me here for a reason, and I’m going to make the most of it. Whatever that looks like, whatever that means, I’m going to make the most of it and hopefully make this city proud.”
