Ingrid Andress Admits She Was Drunk While Performing National Anthem at Home Run Derby

Recently, country music star Ingrid Andress found her life in the spotlight while singing the national anthem for the MLB’s Home Run Derby. She then shocked millions of viewers worldwide by confessing to being drunk during that performance and declaring that she would shortly be entering rehab. Here is what happened—and what happened since then.

The Home Run Derby was in full swing as part of the MLB calendar, but things really got off to a flying start when Ingrid Andress took her opportunity to sing the national anthem. But all didn’t go totally as planned. The fault-finders have wasted little time pointing out shortcomings in the performance by equating it with Fergie’s much-maligned anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. There was an enormously tense scene as attendees and viewers took to social media to express their disappointment.

Subsequently, Andress took to social media to explain the situation after much criticism followed. She posted a heartfelt message admitting that she had been drunk during the performance.

“I’m not gonna lie to y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night.”.

“I’m so sorry to MLB, all the fans and this great country I love so much for that rendition”

she wrote. Her honest confession and subsequently issuing an apology was met with a mix of sympathy and continued bashing.

As any person might have expected for a performance gone wrong in this digital day and age, Andress’s had gone viral within minutes of it happening. Social media was ruffled with reactions; some of the world’s harshest critics described it as

“one of the worst national anthem renditions ever.”

The online debate became downright heated, with users voicing their opinions with regard to the performance and Andress’s apology that followed. Some showed support for her to seek help; others continued to criticize.

Before the controversy, Andress had announced a new single release for “Colorado 9” and upcoming shows in Nashville, Tennessee, and Denver. The announcements now have a question mark, as she has checked into rehab. It is yet to be seen if she can fulfill those commitments or if her road on which she embarks to recovery will take precedence.

Ingrid Andress has come a long way with her music, as her very first album was debuted as “Lady Like,” which earned her four Grammy nominations. She has most recently been commended on her performance of “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt. Andress admits candidly that during large events, scrutiny at times can be overwhelming for artists.
