For weeks now the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn and revise Roe v. Wade has been the talk of town. Women everywhere have protested in outrage at the tone deafness of the political group’s decision and rightfully so. Even several famous female personalities have come forth to speak out against the unjust act towards women. During the BET Awards 2022, R&B singer Janelle Monae didn’t hold back on the matter. In fact, Monae flipped off the Supreme Court.
She’s Not Afraid To Speak Her Mind
For years, conspiracy theorists have argued that the government watches us through our cell phones and televisions. Big Uncle Sam wants to control everything. Though, the government took things to extremes when they decided to take away a woman’s right to abortion. Apparently, the government wants to send women back to the dark ages.
Many female celebrities at the 2022 BET Awards spoke out against the unjust ruling, including Janelle Monae. While presenting the award for “Best Female R&B /Pop Artist,” Monae delivered a very colorful message to the Supreme Court over their June 24th ruling.
Furthermore, the singer and actress shouted “F**k you Supreme Court” and tossed up a middle finger. “We must celebrate our art by protecting our rights and our truth,” Monae said.
Additionally, Monae used her black Roberto Cavalli dress as a symbol of protection and women’s empowerment. When it comes to Janelle Monae, she doesn’t hold back.
Latto Says She Controls Her Body
Janelle Monae wasn’t the only outspoken voice in the room at the 2022 BET Awards. Female rapper Latto, who is gaining popularity, expressed a heartfelt response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Her emotional reaction was evident.
While accepting the award for “Best New Artist”, the “Big Energy” Latto shared, “It’s about giving pro-choice… it’s about never giving in to a man policing my body.”
Latto and Janelle Monae both certainly speak the truth.
