Recently, Julia Fox has spoken publicly about her short but tumultuous romance with Kanye West, saying it was
“one of the most uncomfortable experiences”
in her life. In an interview with The Times, the actress/model spoke candidly about how the whirlwind romance left her feeling exploited. She described herself as a “pawn” in West’s public feud with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. At first, Fox had tried to keep the relationship private; West catapulted it into headlines against her will.
The relationship, which kicked off on New Year’s from 2021, burned bright but fizzled out just six weeks later, ending in February of 2022. Fox says early in the relationship, it became sorted that West, legally known as Ye-was controlling aspects of her life. From passing her outfit approvals to making lifestyle demands, Ye’s influence quickly became overbearing.
Fox claimed that what had finally happened was basically a nondisclosure agreement, which West had asked her to sign, hence the reason for the end of the relationship. It has also been reported that the NDA is about preventing her from talking about the details of their relationship with others. Fox decided not to sign the NDA, which eventually led to the breakup.
However, there were very few truly glamorous public moments, such as the high-profile appearance at Paris Fashion Week, per Fox, who has admitted the relationship emotionally drained her.
“It was a lot,”
she reflected detailing how quarrels and emotional tension besmirched the short romance. She refers to the period in her newly published memoir, Down the Drain, recalling,
“No man, no matter how rich or famous, is worth one minute away from my child.”
She credited her son with giving her the strength to walk away, reiterating that motherhood remains her top priority.
The public’s reaction was nearly just as swift, with many accusing Fox of using the romance for publicity. Fox herself countered this narrative by saying the media was too much to handle and furthered her discomfort with the situation. Fox clarified that she never wanted to be simply known as “someone’s girlfriend” and has since been fighting to regain an identity for herself in popular culture.
Beyond the breakup, Julia Fox has taken so much time for personal growth. This summer, she officially came out as a lesbian via a casual TikTok video, a revelation she says is part of her ever-growing love and tolerance for herself.

As trying as her relationship with Ye might have been, which put her under a lot of public scrutiny, Fox insists it was a lesson to be learned.
“It was uncomfortable, but I came out stronger,”
she said, adding that a key message is learning to set boundaries and stay true to one’s self.
Fox released a memoir in 2023 titled Down The Drain, where she referred to West as “The Artist.” She hopes the conversation will finally shift from her romantic past onto her personal journey, artistry, and motherhood’s pure joy. The narrative for Fox is not just about regrets; it’s about going forward.
