Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested on March 7, 2025, in Williamson County in Texas on a felony offense of family or household assault by interfering with breathing or circulation. The arrest comes a week short of a month after Worthy’s outstanding performance in Super Bowl LIX when he played a major role in Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to Philadelphia Eagles.
Worthy, a first-round draft pick in 2024, quickly made a name for himself by breaking the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record with a 4.21 second dash. During his first year as a professional, he had 59 catches for 638 yards and nine touchdowns. His performance in Super Bowl LIX consisted of eight catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Worthy was arrested on the evening of March 7, 2025, Williamson County Court Records reveal. The charge is a Texas third-degree felony and is labeled as “ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT.” Bond had not been made by Worthy as of March 8, 2025. No information on specific details of what occurred and information on the victim has been made public.
The Kansas City Chiefs released a brief statement on March 8, 2025 that read
“We are cognizant and are taking notice.”
The NFL also responded by saying
“We are aware of the matter and have been in communication with the club.”
Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, issued a statement confirming cooperation with police:
“We are aware of the charge that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with Williamson County law enforcement to ensure that they have access to the entire context of the series of events that led to this investigation.”
Assault on a household or family member by preventing breathing or circulation is a very serious offense in Texas. In Texas Penal Code Section 22.01, it is a third-degree felony with a penalty of 2 to 10 years in prison and a fine not more than $10,000.
