Fivio Foreign caused an internet stir during his recent Instagram live session, where he’s speculated to say that the probable headliner of Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show, Kendrick Lamar, might bring Lil Wayne and Drake on stage to reunite for a historic performance that can go in the books.
Fivio Foreign’s claim shook the music world, considering the seriousness of what he is suggesting.
According to Fivio, Kendrick-who is set to headline the Super Bowl LIX halftime show-is going to bring something special. The one and only Lil Wayne would make his appearance first, followed by Drake. Sure, the mere idea of these three megastars sharing the same stage is enough to hyp bil-java, but the added layer of a possible reconciliation between Drake and Kendrick has only intensified excitement.
The feud between Kendrick and Drake has attempted to boil over for more than a decade. The tension first flared back in 2013 when Kendrick called out a host of rappers, including Drake, in his now-legendary verse on Big Sean’s track “Control.” While some saw Kendrick’s lines as a competitive nod to his peers, since then the relationship between the two has soured, each dropping subliminal shots in songs and interviews.
Things went to a whole new level when Kendrick released the scathing diss track “Not Like Us,” in which he hurled some very sharp jabs in Drake’s direction-a rivalry no longer able to be ignored.
A moment it would certainly be, should Kendrick bring Drake on stage-not only for the performance but for the culture. Rarely does one get to witness two heavyweights iron out their differences as publicly as this, and for that to happen on one of the biggest stages in the world? Fans are understandably buzzing at the mere thought of even a possibility.
Others may be more skeptical, since they just don’t seem to believe that much of what Fivio said had any merit to it whatsoever. Of course, he didn’t introduce any evidence or sources in proving his story. I gotta see it to believe it,” one fan tweeted, which perhaps captured the feelings of many who are skeptical but still hopeful. Others seemed to feel that Fivio might have let the cat out of the bag too early and ruined what could have been a monumental surprise during the halftime show performance.
Adding to the speculation, Kendrick Lamar recently issued a cryptic announcement of his performance for the upcoming Super Bowl. He has said, “No round twos,” in a YouTube video-the meaning of which has been interpreted by fans in a few ways. Some think that might be a very subtle reference to his very public beef with Drake and a way of saying there won’t be any part two. All this, along with the timing of Fivio’s claims, has just led to more speculation about what Kendrick might have in store.
