Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed a Wonder Man series in development for Disney+. The series centers on the Marvel Comics character Simon Williams, alias Wonder Man. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II of “Watchmen” and “Aquaman” will star as the main character. It will be based on how Simon Williams transforms from a business person to a superhero, Wonder Man, after being made superhuman by Baron Zemo.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is at the top with his executive producing duties but will helm only the first two episodes. But other directors include James Ponsoldt and Stella Meghie. Among the writers are Madeline Walter, Paul Bradford Welsh, and Andrew Guest.
The plot of the series is expected to deviate slightly from the original comic book story, incorporating elements of Hollywood satire, given that Williams is portrayed as a failed actor. It is involving the return of Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery from both “Iron Man 3″ and “Shang-Chi.”
Filming began in April 2023, but it was put on hold for several weeks due to the Writers Guild of America strike and then the SAG-AFTRA strike. It resumed early in 2024 and was entirely produced by April. The total number of episodes is expected to be 10, and it will probably be broadcast late next year or early 2025.
