King Von was born Dayvon Daquan Bennett on August 9, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a frontline rapper who served as the voice behind the evolution of drill music. He had mad hits like “Crazy Story” and “Took Her to the O,” both of which were buried in the Billboard Hot 100 charts. His studio album, “Welcome to O’Block,” released in 2020, placed fifth on the Billboard 200.
The number 64, which Dayvon Jr. now wears with pride, holds a special meaning in that it is an ode to King Von’s roots in Parkway Gardens, a stretch between 64th Street and Martin Luther King Drive. This area at the crosspoint of 64th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive really kindled these experiences, which flowed into making him go through what he does in the music. That is symbolic of what the Black Disciples street gang looks like; they reign supreme in this area. The number 64 to gang members means the 6th and 4th letters of the alphabet, B and D, which means “Black Disciples.”
Sadly, King Von’s life came to an end on November 6, 2020, when he was fatally shot in Atlanta, Georgia, at the very young age of 26 years. Notwithstanding his sudden death, his legacy did not die but lives on through his music and the effect he had on the rap game. His son, Dayvon Jr., born in July 2021, is one of the late King Von’s three kids who seem to take after him uniquely and touchingly in memory of Dad.
King Von‘s frequent incarcerations and early death are what ultimately concretely held back the kind of relationship that could have unfolded between him and his son, Dayvon Jr. The bond they shared transcends time. In opting to wear that number 64 jersey, Dayvon Jr. is not only showing respect for his father’s legacy; he is keeping his memory alive. That has been quite important to many who cherish the notion behind such a touching tribute and bridging generations.
King Von’s impact extended beyond music. Known for his acts of charity, from supporting local businesses through sponsoring school supplies and organizing food drives, it wouldn’t be out of place to see a posthumous release like that of the “King Von documentary” to show more of his life and struggle, further solidifying him as a giant in hip hop.
On the other hand, Dayvon Jr. is immensely supported by King Von’s family, especially by his mother, Taesha, and his siblings. After all, despite all odds, Taesha raised King Von and all his siblings on many occasions without much support from their father, Walter ‘Silk’ Bennett. So, the lessons of resilience, loyalty, and impact that King Von inculcated on community will devolve to his son now.
The community is warming up well to Dayvon Jr. sporting #64. Fans and social media users have been showing much appreciation for this touching gesture, which spills the emotional connection between King Von‘s legacy and family more and more. As Dayvon Jr. continues to pay his tribute in this manner, it shows more of the close bond he shared with his father while greatly teaching about his life and music’s impact.
Within a world cautiously run by legacy and memory, Dayvon Jr.‘s decision to wear jersey number 64 on his football jersey is simply such a beautiful, lasting tribute to his father, King Von. This essentially simple but deep gesture further cements King Von’s legacy, ensuring inspiration and resonance with fans and family alike.
