Kodak Black Responds to Fans Comparing His Struggles to DMX’s Fate

Kodak Black has become the subject of widespread concern after fans warned him that his current behavior might lead him down a tragic path similar to that of the late hip-hop legend DMX. The comparisons stem from Kodak’s recent public appearances, where he has seemed visibly troubled. While some fans see these warnings as a wake-up call, Kodak himself has had mixed reactions, rejecting and acknowledging the comparisons.

On March 28, 2025, a video surfaced online showing Kodak Black on Instagram Live visibly distressed. His disheveled appearance and erratic behavior quickly went viral, sparking immediate reactions from fans who expressed deep concern. Many have noted that this is not the first time Kodak has appeared this way, drawing alarming parallels to DMX’s well-documented struggles with substance abuse before his tragic passing in 2021.

One social media user commented, “Kodak Black needs help… This happens every few months. It’s starting to feel like a pattern.”

Kodak Black did not stay silent on the matter. In response to the comparisons, he had a mix of emotions. Initially, he rejected the idea outright, saying,

“Shut the [expletive] up, definitely ain’t going out like DMX. He a legend.” like DMX than go out like the [expletive].” He also admitted, “I do feel like DMX a lot of the time.”

DMX, born Earl Simmons, was one of the most influential rappers of his time. He released seven studio albums, with 1999’s …And Then There Was X being among his most successful. However, DMX’s career was often overshadowed by his struggles with addiction, which ultimately led to his untimely death at age 50.

Before his passing, DMX reflected on his life and career in a poignant interview, saying,

“I always feel like I’m gonna look back on my life just before I go and thank God for every moment.”

His story serves as both an inspiration and a cautionary tale, making the comparisons to Kodak Black all the more significant.

Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, has faced many legal troubles throughout his career. Since his teenage years, he has been in and out of jail for various charges, ranging from robbery to firearm possession. Despite his legal battles, Kodak has remained a prominent figure in the rap industry, with albums like Dying to Live (2018) topping the Billboard 200 chart.

His erratic behavior has not gone unnoticed within the music industry. Several artists and industry veterans have reportedly tried to help him. One commentator noted, “People have been trying to guide Kodak for years. Master P even tried, but Kodak is hardheaded.” Another suggested that Kodak could benefit from mentorship by someone he respects, such as Nas.

Although Kodak has not publicly addressed any struggles with substance abuse, fans and commentators have speculated that his behavior may be linked to addiction. “If he keeps on doing what we all know he’s doing or assuming he’s doing, he’s got to be careful,” one user warned.

This is not the first instance of individuals comparing Kodak and DMX. As early as 2023, there were talks of Kodak following in DMX’s footsteps, showing that this has been an ongoing worry for fans and industry insiders.

The recent comparisons to DMX are a dire warning. While Kodak has fought them off, his statements suggest that he, too, may see the similarities. If he does not seek help, he risks falling into a destructive cycle that has claimed many talented artists.

Fans, peers in the industry, and even bystanders are all hoping for something different. Whether Kodak will listen to these warnings and make a change remains to be seen, but the conversation about his health is louder than ever.
