Lil Durk Breaks Silence from Federal Custody: Denies Protective Custody

Lil Durk broke his silence while in federal custody. Recently, a leaked audio clipsurfaced online in which Durk addresses the rumors that have been going around concerning his living situation. He categorically denies being in protective custody-a topic that has driven several speculations among his fans and the media.

In the audio, Durk clears that he’s in a regular unit inside the Metropolitan Detention Center and not inside any protective custody area. He expressed being irritated with the rumors that have been milling around. “I’m good, man. I’m in a regular unit, not in some cushy spot,” he said, trying to reassure concerned fans while he has been away.

Lil Durk was born Durk Derrick Banks and has been in custody since his case started in the Metropolitan Detention Center in LA . He has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and other weapons-related charges. Those stem from an alleged plot that targeted fellow rapper Quando Rondo, all from a years-long feud that has made headlines over the years.

The feud first erupted in November 2020 when King Von – described as a close friend and frequent collaborator of Durk’s – was shot outside an Atlanta nightclub. That killing only furthered the feud, with antagonisms between the two sides continuing to escalate. Prosecutors said Durk and several associates took a trip from Chicago to Los Angeles in August 2022 so they could kill Quando Rondo, offering both cash and musical favors to anyone who would follow through with the hit.

That plot climaxed in a shooting at a West Hollywood gas station where gunmen sprayed bullets into a car carrying Rondo and his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson. Rondo and his sister emerged unscathed, but Robinson died from her wounds. Incidents of violence like that stamp the hip-hop community, begging a question about how street violence affects artists and their respective careers.

The upcoming case has not stopped Durk from his work as an artist. His upcoming album, titled “Deep Thoughts,” is due to be released this fall but has been delayed. These new singles will serve as another source of insight into Durk’s making and life.

Lil Durk pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, November 14, 2024. He had been arrested near Miami International Airport on October 17, 2024, as he reportedly attempted to flee the country. A tentative trial has also been scheduled for January 7, 2025, in California, where he will face serious charges matched with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.

Lil Durk’s lawyer, Drew Findling, has spoken about his client. Drew Findling, the high-profile attorney representing celebrities like Cardi B and even Donald Trump, thinks otherwise; he says that Durkie faces the charges head-on and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

”We do not in any way distinguish how we select cases,” said Findling. “We don’t choose cases or not take cases because of the race of our client, the ethnicity of our client, the substantive charge, and/or the political views of the client.” He furthered that they were ready for the fight and ready with their defense.

The case attracted much attention from the hip-hop community, with several followers and other artists monitoring the action. The outcome of this case may have widespread implications for Lil Durk’s career and the entire hip-hop aspect of things.
