What seemed to be just a normal moment during the Lovestream Festival turned out to be quite dramatic and unexpected when it became known that the woman joining Macklemore on stage was wanted.
Macklemore had invited 24-year-old local named Samantha to join him for the performance of his mega-hit “Downtown” during the festival. Little did the rapper know, Samantha had outstanding warrants on her from the police for a streaking incident during the soccer game in 2019.
Samantha took to social media to let her network know when she appeared on stage to perform. An observant citizen saw her on a Slovakian website that had a section for fugitives and called the cops. The arresting officers were already on the festival ground to provide security. They nabbed Samantha on stage and took her to prison to begin serving prison.
The incident is raising questions about the place of social media in giving public recognition and its potential risks in revealing personal information on the Internet. It also show the struggles by officials to catch fugitives in the digital era.
Macklemore was totally in the dark about Samantha’s situation and was floored and heartbroken by the arrest. His reps declined to speak on the matter any further.
