Malia, Barack and Michelle Obama’s eldest daughter, has made her mark as a member of the writing team for Donald Glover’s Amazon Prime Video series, Swarm. She has also been writing for the actor’s newly-formed production company Gilga, according to US media.
GQ revealed in a cover story that Malia is part of Gilga’s first project, which will be a short film. The 24-year-old Harvard alum is developing her project with the help of her mentor, Glover.
Gambino’s multi-talented career
Glover is known for his work as a comedian, actor and singer, whether it’s through his critically acclaimed show Atlanta or the global music hit “This Is America.” He’s a creative who blurs the lines between art forms. He’s also a renowned songwriter and producer.
His work reaches new audiences in unexpected places. He’s starred in blockbusters like Star Wars and The Lion King, and has received Grammy nominations for his music. He’s toured the world with his band, Childish Gambino, and collaborated with major artists.
He’s also a writer and co-created the series Swarm, which has been nominated for several awards including the Emmys and Golden Globes. It’s a show that explores racial identity, gender and feminism, and it’s no surprise that he’s become one of the most sought-after artists in the world at such an early stage of his career.
Encouraging the young Obama
In a recent interview with GQ, Glover explained how he has been mentoring Malia to create her own projects as well. He said that the main thing they talked about is how she would only get to do this once.
It’s a great idea to have young creatives work on their own projects, but it’s important that they’re given the proper support in order to make them successful. It’s also crucial to have them be mentored by someone who understands the industry inside and out, as Glover did with Malia.
Having Malia on his team means she’ll be able to learn from his experiences as an artist and creator, and will also benefit from the guidance of his team, including Fam Udeorji and the other members of his production company Gilga. They’ve been instrumental in helping him establish the company’s content ethos, which is focused on producing quality of work the way “rich kids do.”
Malia Obama is set to release her short film under Gilga!
In a recent GQ interview, Glover explained how he has been introducing Malia to his company’s work ethic and the filmmaking process. In addition to giving her the opportunity to write for his new Amazon series Swarm, he has also been mentoring her to create her own projects as well.
Malia is already making her mark on the writer’s room of Glover’s Amazon Prime Video series Swarm, which has been nominatedfor several awards including the Emmys and Golden Gloves. She’s also been writing for the actor’s newly-formed company Gilga, which is headquartered in Ojai and launched this year.
Aside from the short film Malia will be creating for Gilga, she’ll also be starring in her own series. It’s a reimagining of the 2005 romantic drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and it’s expected to premiere on Prime Video sometime this year.
