Marvel Studios shook the comic book world last night when it unleashed a fantastic drone show in the sky to tease its upcoming “Fantastic Four” film. The display transformed the San Diego night sky into a canvas of cosmic wonder, sweeping jaws to the floor with iconic imagery of Galactus and the titular superhero team. Fans were pleased to see a more classic and imposing interpretation of Galactus, far removed from the controversial cloud-like form the character has taken in other adaptations. Easter eggs for the Future Foundation embedded in the show have kicked off fan speculation regarding possible plot directions for the film.
Apart from the trailer, Marvel Studios has teased the new “Fantastic Four” movie with the release of brand-new posters featuring its cast.
These posters, which hit downtown San Diego before the convention, had a real retro, kitschy vibe that really fit well with the film’s 1960s period piece setting. Silhouettes of main characters from the movie Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing—are given center stage in the poster.
Fans were abuzz right from the very start of the concept art and promotion. People were taking to social media to share their excitement about their anticipation for the movie. One fan tweeted, “SDCC drone show was out of this world!!!! Can’t wait to see Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic!!” Another said, “The posters are awesome; so retro! Marvel really will pull off that 1960s feel.” Speculations into the plotlines ran wild. Would it be about the origin story of the Fantastic Four, their wars with iconic villains, or maybe the bigger implications of what Future Foundation is getting themselves into? It held endless possibilities, and hints from Marvel poured fuel into the fire.
