Meek Mill is offering a $100,000 reward to anyone who has information on where the rumor originated that involved him with Sean “Diddy” Combs. Rumors hit the net over the weekend when Diddy was arrested and charged with assault and battery.
Meek, however, has adamantly denied any involvement with Diddy’s case, claiming he is the reason for a set of “cyber attacks” that begin to harm his name and business. He expects these to be amongst a wide campaign to discredit Black public figures.
Meek Mill has, however, maintained that he has nothing to do with Diddy’s legal problems. He took to his socials a couple of times to vent about these speculations, saying this is eminently unfair to him-the media and some blogs are just out to get him. He also made sure to note that no one has come to him about the rumors, which further makes him believe the rumor is part of a larger effort to discredit prominent Black figures.
“I want to hire an investigative team with $100K cash to find out every specific detail involving my name in Diddy’s case,” Meek said. He continued, reiterating his determination to find out who is responsible for what he termed a coordinated campaign to come after him in the media. He really thinks that these “cyber attacks” are not just a character smear but also part of a greater plan for the harm of Black public figures and households.
The fact that Meek invested such a large sum into uncovering the truth in itself is indicative of his unease about how these rumors could impinge on his career and business ventures. As much as he says that people “in the streets” know his real character, he fears it will damage his professional life.
The public is divided regarding the response to Meek’s announcement. Some ridiculed the rapper, hinting that he was overreacting or paranoid. Others supported the artist because it is, indeed, one good reason to have one’s name defended, and it brought awareness regarding the damages caused by fake rumors against public figures. Fans came forward, jokingly, to take his job for a hefty $100,000 payout.
While the drama’s still on, Meek has kept busy with the music, dropping new songs and having time with his fans. Indisputably, the concern that the media has and brings about his name keeps him up at night, thinking.
