A restraining order against hip-hop star Tory Lanez was filed in Superior Court by Megan Thee Stallion on December 17, 2024. This is after Lanez was accused of continuing to harass and intimidate her from jail, even as he has been serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan back in 2020.
Tory Lanez, legally named Daystar Peterson, was convicted in December 2022 of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, legally named Megan Pete, in both feet after an argument in the Hollywood Hills. A protective order barring Lanez from contacting Megan was issued during the highly publicized case. That order has expired. Megan says she is being harassed.
In the new filing in Los Angeles Superior Court, Megan accused Lanez of masterminding a harassment campaign against her from behind bars. Megan goes on to say that Lanez used third-party surrogates and bloggers to make various defamatory statements regarding her. Among those implicated was blogger Milagro Gramz, whom Megan had stated Lanez had engaged in a scheme with; recruiting her to disseminate all these falsehoods in a move presumably geared at tainting Meg Thee Stallion’s credibility.
Filings reveal that the call records show discussions between Lanez and his father, wherein one of the parties is allegedly discussing making a payment to Gramz for the harassment activities of Megan. Megan, through her petition, says the actions are causing her considerable emotional distress and damage to her reputation.
Megan also filed a request to the court for a restraining order against Lanez on December 17, 2024, over what she claimed was “continuous harassment” by Lanez via third parties: he “has engendered psychological warfare” against her.
Lanez’s lawyers, through attorney Ceasar McDowell, have denied the charges, even terming them “ridiculous,” and expressed confidence in the due process of law. “We trust that the truth will be fully examined and proved through the legal process,” said McDowell in a statement.
The alleged harassment has also extended to Megan’s professional pursuits, including her Prime Video documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: Her Words, chronicling her experiences and the fallout from the 2020 shooting. Megan’s petition claims Lanez aimed to undermine the release of the documentary and its legitimacy.
In court for Lanez’s sentencing, Megan had a potent impact statement that explained how much emotional and psychological turmoil was experienced by the shooting and the events following it. “He not only shot me; he made a mockery of my trauma,” Megan said. “He began to pose himself as some kind of victim and acted to destroy my character, my soul.
A hearing in the court will be held on January 9, 2025, to consider Megan’s motion for a restraining order. This hearing is going to be important, since the outcome will explain whether she has any more ways of pursuing her harassing claims and continuing protection accordingly.
The petition for the restraining order really outlines how, since the incident in 2020, Megan Thee Stallion has continued to struggle with the case. From physical to emotional and reputational damage, Megan’s journey showcases the bigger problem of harassment and how one can go through complex battles both in public and legally.
