Deandre Demarcus Fields is a rapper known more by his stage name, NBA Lil Pap, who has just come out of prison after serving five years. Fields had been involved in the high-profile killing case of Baton Rouge rapper Gee Money, murdered in September 2017. Originally, he was charged with second-degree murder, but Lil Pap finally accepted a plea deal in January 2023, which only reduced his charge to “accessory after the fact to murder.” This allowed him to get away from serving life in prison, given for the said case, to a five-year term.
The case was mired by complications, not the least of which was the arrest of one of its key witnesses on murder charges, which boded very unwell for the prosecution’s case in being able to inculpate the defendant for the original charge. He was released from jail, but Lil Pap continued to maintain innocence throughout the case and related that he only pled guilty because he did not want to risk a life sentence.
Lil Pap was recently on live stream listening to music from NBA YoungBoy. NBA YoungBoy and Gee Money had a pretty public feud before Gee Money was murdered. That dispute reportedly started over a diss track that mentioned YoungBoy’s sister, and it sparked an element of war between their multiple crews. Police have connected that feud to at least three different violent incidents in.
Lil Pap’s release and subsequent feature on live listening to NBA YoungBoy have raised discussions and speculations within the hip-hop community.
