While the New York Giants have had a problematic offseason battling Brian Flores’s lawsuit. The New York Giants have found a way to make history. The Giants have hired Angela Baker as an assistant coach. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Baker will serve as the minority coaching fellow and offensive quality control coach on Brian Daboll’s staff this season.
Baker worked with the Cleveland Browns as a participant in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. She becomes the second woman hired to the coaching staff. Their first hire was Laura Young. She was the team director of coaching operations for a period of time with the Buffalo Bills. Young is the New York Giant’s first hire of women relating to coaching.
According to ESPN, in 2020, the Giants made history by hiring Hannah Burnett as their first full-time female scout. Currently, she serves as a college scout focusing on the Midlands region. The Giants seem to be attempting to turn over a new leaf by hiring some of these powerful women. These women continue to shock the world and trail blaze leading by example. The world of sports where women aren’t as significant days is coming to an end right before our very eyes.
While the league still faces issues, they are attempting to move a step in the right direction.
