New footage that has emerged from a 1994 interrogation has rejuvenated some of the controversies surrounding Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. The footage definitely calls into question the validity of the previous statements Nicki Minaj had made concerning Petty’s past and his association with the woman, Jennifer Hough, who accused him of rape.
In a videotape leaked online this year, Petty denied raping Hough, a statement that contradicts his later guilty plea to attempted rape, for which he served upwards of four years in prison. Minaj has publicly defended Petty, alleging that he and Hough were in a consensual relationship as teenagers, and that Hough’s parents forced her to say that he raped her. However, this story was not borne out by footage showing Petty denying sex with Hough on the day in question and giving conflicting accounts of their previous interactions.

Jennifer Hough has been steadfast in her allegations of Petty raping her at knifepoint in 1994 and recently sued him and Minaj for harassment and intimidation. She alleged the couple attempted to bribe and threaten her into recanting her accusation, which she would not do. This legal fight has increased the pressure applied to Minaj regarding her relationship with Petty, as many have called into question just how valid Minaj’s public defenses of her husband are.
Minaj’s attempts to downplay Petty’s criminal past and her and her boyfriend’s subsequent efforts to quiet Hough have factored heavily into her public persona regarding speculation of her in the case and the morality of her stance in support of Petty himself.
