Nola vs Nola, A Brothers Duel.
A Father Torn
Imagine being a father of two pro-athletes on two different teams. Then, imagine one of those sons strikes out the other. So, would you cheer? Or remain silent? Coincidetally, Tthat was the predicament of A.J. Nola, who even wore both son’s jerseys while in the stands. He stood excitedly then froze, not wanting to appear as he was favoring one son over the other.
When asked about his sons, A.J responded with,
“We’re living a dream right now. Words can’t describe it right now. I’m just trying to soak it all in and enjoy the moment, because we’ve been waiting for this since they were little kids.”
– A.J. Nola
Nola vs. Nola
On Saturday, both teams and sons, Nola vs. Nola faced off. Then, some magic swung Aaron’s way briefly as he faced older brother.Aaron Nola, 28, struck out Austin Nola, 31, the San Diego Padres catcher, in the second inning.
Of course, Aaron was happy that he got redemption from the last time he face older brother. As he recalls,
“I was (ticked) off at myself for leaving a ball over the plate,” Aaron Nola recalled of their last meeting. “It’s fun. Hopefully one day I get to face him. If it works out in San Diego, it works out. I’ve always said hopefully before our careers are over I’ll get to throw to him behind the dish.
Luckily, he was given another chance at Nola Vs. Nola. As a result, of wanting to his bragging rights, Aaron Nola threw hard and fast, pitching a 95.9 mph on a 0-1 count fastball and 96.2 mph on a 0-2 fastball. And, he got him.
Nola Gives a Standout Performance despite loss
Initially, Nola was perfect through six innings. Only resulting in three runs, two earned, and two hits. On the mound, he struck out 11 on 117 pitches (76 strikes). However, the Phillies struggled afterwards tilting the score in the other team’s favor.
Unfortunately, for Aaron and the Phillies, the Padres ended up taking the game with a score of 4-3. But, Aaron got bragging rights, for sure, for getting the upper hand on older brother and catching him looking. Yet, it will be a story he will repeat for time to come at family gatherings. Meanwhile, older brother, Austin can relish in his team’s victory over his little brother’s team. On the other hand, A.J. Nola can stand proud for both his boys achievements.
