Peaky Blinders Roar Back: Tommy Shelby’s Gangland Saga Marches Onto Netflix
The roaringly popular Peaky Blinders returns, and this time everyone’s favourite Birmingham troublemakers are heading to the big screen. The twist in the tail comes from Netflix, who have just given the nod to a Peaky Blinders movie, reuniting fans with the infamous Shelby clan.
The always-immaculate Cillian Murphy is back in full Cillian scruff, his razor-sharp cheekbones and steely blue gaze front and center for this thrilling new chapter of the story of Tommy Shelby. Not only will he reprise his legendary character, but he will also serve as a producer, making sure his influence is felt throughout every shot.

Seeing Murphy won’t be a bunch of fresh faces in the world of Peaky Blinders. It was written by Steven Knight, who created the world in the original film. Rumours have been flying around that the next season will delve deeper into World War II, a period densely populated by material for espionage against such a high stakes backdrop, possibly with some consequences against the Shelby family and their criminal empire.
Tom Harper takes over from Adam Smith who directed the first few episodes of the first season (Harper helmed six of the eight episodes rendering a flawless handover of the directorial baton). A joint production with BBC Film, the series is set to be released on Netflix a logical home for the show given its international viewing figures. Clearly, new faces will emerge overseas while existing ones will be weaved even more richly into the fabric of the story. With that fusion between old and new, one can hope for the story to remain as innovative and thrilling to fans as it has ever been.
It’s not just a straight continuation, the Peaky Blinders movie is also being positioned as part of a wider universe. Spin-off discussions suggest a world in which the Shelby family will still be engaging viewers. Fans are already speculating and dream casting all over social media.
