Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger To Retire After Season

Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger has spoken to teammates and people within the organization with intentions of retiring after the 2021 season, per ESPN. Roethlisberger has yet to go public with this information. Due to his focus on the season, he likely will not engage with the public. As the Steelers, attempt to make a playoff push, Roethlisberger is making his primary concern about helping this team.

The Future Hall of Famer faces off with the Baltimore Ravens twice within the next several weeks of their schedule. Roethlisberger is in the final year of his contract. As he nears 40, he is the last of his particular draft class remaining. Philip Rivers and Eli Manning have moved on to the next chapters of their lives. Roethlisberger was able to complete his 18-year career with the same organization which is the most by a quarterback in NFL history.

According to sources, Roethlisberger has emphasized he would not have played elsewhere other than Pittsburgh. However, this doesn’t exclude him potentially playing in another city just “highly unlikely”.

Big Ben is one of the greatest Pittsburgh Steelers ever

If Big Ben was to retire tomorrow he’d retire with the most touchdown passes and passing yards in Steeler history. Roethlisberger is arguably one of the greatest Steeler players ever. Not to mention, his two Super Bowl victories in his career. He’s eight in NFL history for most career touchdowns. Big Ben is sixth all-time in passing yards with 62,87. Alongside being the fifth most winningest quarterback in NFL history.

Roethlisberger’s accolades and accomplishments speak for themselves. However, he is at times overlooked by his peers when it comes to the great quarterback debates. Many felt last season could have been Roethlisberger’s last due to his lack of arm strength and injury history. Ironically, the team seemed to prepare for the end of Big Ben’s run as they proceeded to gear up offensively and gather more pieces to compliment their defense.

    Life after Roethlisberger retires

The Steelers have the youngest offensive roster throughout the whole league. Their offensive line is scattered with rookies along with their tight end and running back. Although the Steelers have Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph, many question if these two will be Roethlisberger’s successor. They both have struggled in their careers and there has been no sign of confidence in either to lead this team going forward.

The Steelers are 5-5-1 and they’re attempting to make a push for the playoffs within these last five games. This team has been average all season; however, with their latest defeat of the Ravens this can give the momentum they need to propel through this tough stretch. This will give Roethlisberger an opportunity to add to his legacy even further.
