The terrible news of the tragic killing of Dwayne Haskins has been the talk of the Internet over this weekend. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Haskins was struck by a dump truck while he was on a South Florida highway, reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter . Lieutenant Indiana Miranda confirmed that Haskins died at the accident site. In an email, Miranda stated that Haskins attempted to cross the lanes of I-595 heading west while traffic was approaching. The accident caused the highway to close for several hours, but the reason for Haskins’ presence on the highway remains unknown. The news saddened many, including Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who expressed his feelings in a statement on Twitter.
Mike Tomlin expressed his devastation and shock over the tragic death of Dwayne Haskins. In his heartfelt words Tomlin acknowledged that Haskins quickly became an integral part of the Steelers family during his time in Pittsburgh. He commended Haskins for his unwavering commitment and dedication to the team. Both on and off the field. Dwayne was an amazing teammate, and above all, an incredible friend to many. I feel deeply saddened by this loss.
“We are thinking of his wife, Kalabrya, and the rest of his family during this tough time.”

The Washington Commanders pay Respect to Dwayne Haskins
The Ohio State legend received tons of love after the fact. However, he also received distasteful comments that many athletes around the league spoke out against. Nonetheless, the Washington Commanders drafted Haskins in the 2019 draft and also released a statement acknowledging the loss and the potential he presented so early in his career.
“We are saddened by the loss of Dwayne Haskins Jr.,” expressed Daniel and Tanya Snyder, owners of the Commanders, in a heartfelt statement. “Dwayne had great potential, and his vibrant personality left a lasting impact.” Our grief cannot be adequately expressed in words. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dwaynes family and all those who were fortunate to know him and cherish him. “
Expressing their sorrow Commanders coach Ron Rivera shared, “Dwayne was an exceptionally talented young man with a promising future ahead of him.” He further added, “This is an incredibly sorrowful time. And I am genuinely speechless. The entire team shares in the profound sense of loss we feel over his absence. We extend our condolences and most sincere sympathies to the Haskins family during this difficult moment.”
Haskins’s Impact on his Pittsburgh Steelers Teammates
Haskins appeared in 16 games across two seasons with Washington and was subsequently let go. He then signed with the Steelers shortly after and somehow managed to leave an impact bigger than anyone could imagine. Steelers retired QB Ben Roethlisberger wrote to him in a tweet and explained the impact he left on that Steeler’s team and himself.
In the short time I knew D-Hask, I met a young man who always had a positive outlook. He approached each day at work with a smile, energy, and love. I wish we had more time together, but I’ll treasure the moments and laughter we shared.

T.J. Watt, a linebacker for the Steelers, described Haskins as a positive person. Among his teammates, wide receiver Chase Claypool seemed to be the most affected by the devastating news. They were quite close, and Claypool acknowledges that he was with Haskins shortly before the tragedy occurred.
“I was with you during your last moments, and it’s hard not to reflect on your incredible selflessness,” Claypool expressed. “You only cared about the well-being of everyone around you, and I can’t express enough gratitude for that. You inspire me to be the best version of myself.”
I spent your final moments with you and I can’t help but think about how selfless you were in those moments. All you cared about was making sure that everyone around you was okay and I can’t thank you enough for that. You are what I strive to be. #LL3

The world lost a great person today. When Dwayne first walked into the locker room I could tell he was an upbeat guy. He was always making people smile, never taking life for granted. His impact on me will last a forever.
