Police fatally Shot a Teenager in a Stolen Car on March 18

Based on recently surfaced video footage, a teenager lost their life due to a fatal shooting while asleep behind the wheel of a stolen car in D.C. The police department has made public the bodycam recording of this tragic event, wherein officers from both the US Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department were involved.
The police bodycam videos show the officers entering a stolen vehicle parked outside a residential street on March 18 to confront a 17-year-old who had allegedly been asleep in the car while it was being tampered with. One of the officers opens a rear driver’s side door and commands Martin not to move.
When he fails to comply, the officer shoots five times into Martin’s back causing him to crash into a house.
Investigators are examining the incident and surveillance video, DC police Chief Robert Contee told reporters Tuesday. If criminal intent is determined, the case will be submitted to a grand jury of D.C. residents for review, he said.
Dalaneo Martin, 17, was a teen who had been in school for a long time and a family man, his sister Rahketa Steele told FOX 5. She added that he was always there to make people laugh.
His mother, Terri Martin, has since spoken out and pleaded for the release of the name of the police officer who shot her son. She also called for a vigil for her son. In addition, local council members held a protest in the area where the shooting occurred and a nonprofit, Black Swan Academy, has said it supports young people in the neighborhood who are struggling to cope with their loss.
