Philadelphia police are working to apprehend a masked man attired as horror character Michael Myers after he allegedly went on an axe-wielding rampage against pedestrians in the city. Described as about six feet tall, the suspect was said to be donning a Michael Myers mask, a blue outfit, black shoes, and brandishing a large axe. The attacker reportedly hit one pedestrian in the leg before fleeing southbound on a bike.
The police are also doing almost everything in their power to pursue the suspect and call for people to be on high alert. In this case, the police have asked the people to take immediate action to find this person, cautioning them that should they see such a person, they must immediately contact emergency services. More patrols are active and warn against confrontation with him because it might be dangerous.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the masked man attacking random individuals in the street. He swung his axe seemingly at anyone and appeared to have no motivation for the actions. Following the incident, the man was last seen riding south on a bicycle.
“In a pinch, he was gone. “It was terrifying,”
Another witness said of the scene-side shock from witnessing someone attired in a Michael Myers costume wielding an axe.
The injured person reportedly declined medical attention, and no life-threatening injuries were reported. Bystanders say the victim walked away from the scene, seemingly shaken, but without seeking immediate medical attention. Another witness statement shared the sentiment of dismay and surprise: the Halloween costumes are nothing new, but such violence is not common at all.
The incident has greatly concerned residents in Philadelphia, especially since Halloween is approaching, a time of year when such costumes are becoming more commonplace. Community groups and social media users have voiced fears over safety within the area, especially for those on the holiday. The majority of them would wish to have more police present and take further steps to guarantee the safety of pedestrians and people as a whole.
The Philadelphia police also continue investigations, reassuring the members of the public that they are doing everything possible to apprehend the suspect. They repeat a description of the suspect and encourage anyone with information to contact the police department.
