Ray J has made allegations that several celebrities are allegedly paying off victims connected to Sean “Diddy” Combs in order to avoid being exposed themselves amidst his legal scandal. Ray J made the accusations during his appearance in TMZ’s new documentary TUBI, The Downfall of Diddy: Inside the Freak-Offs. His comments have sparked discussions of hush money payouts within the entertainment world and represent a new level in Diddy’s growing case of legal woes.
At one point in the documentary, Ray J looked visibly uncomfortable discussing those supposed payoffs-perhaps an indication he’d said a little more than he intended to.
He said several celebrities have allegedly reached out to the accusers of Diddy, offering them financial incentives in exchange for their silence about the specifics of their relationships with Diddy’s now-infamous parties-commonly referred to as “freak-offs.” “Some of these people reach out to victims before they even ask for anything, trying to handle it quietly,” Ray J said. Meanwhile, at one point during the aforementioned interview, he rightfully seemed to recollect, “I think I’ve said too much.” Meanwhile, Diddy-accused of sex trafficking, racketeering, and abuse, among other charges, allegedly dating back to the early 1990s-has maintained his innocence. Yet Texas-based attorney Anthony Buzbee, who represents many of the alleged victims reportedly has reached out to other celebrities believed to have been in attendance at such gatherings. To that end, Buzbee reportedly has sent demand letters, which urge settlement with the victims or potential lawsuits, against such celebrities.
He further stated that celebrities attending such events or being witnesses to alleged misconduct would face legal liability themselves if they did nothing.
“Anyone there and observing ill behavior could be held responsible too,” Buzbee explained. He implies but doesn’t quite say, upper echelon pals of Diddy’s who were in attendance at these parties may be implicated should they try to pretend otherwise. Buzbee represents over 120 individuals who report misconduct by Diddy. He has mentioned how some celebrities have already begun to step away from Diddy, even going as far as removing social media posts that may serve as evidence of them at Diddy’s events. The public view the claims by Ray J and many have mixed reactions to the news. Many people hail Ray J as being bold enough to come forward with such claims over the cover-ups, but others question the ethics involved in such settlements. Some look at the payoffs as a desperate means of trying to wriggle out of responsibility, but others believe it may be to protect the privacy and reputations of the individuals involved in the allegations.
Ray J describes the celebrities who have settled with the victims as being “terrified of being exposed to videos that could place them in association with Diddy’s parties and alleged misdeeds.” “They fear the worst-that those videos could ruin them,” he said, emphasizing how the whole situation cries for secrecy. This has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with claims that a bevy of high-profile figures are now seeking legal advice as they are bracing themselves for fallout. If Ray J’s claims are true, this could be disastrous with huge legal battles and may implicate other big names in Hollywood. Diddy is expected to take his accusers to court, but not only that, but the aftermath of these accusations and possible unmasking of Hollywood stars associated with these accusations may actually leave many in the industry speechless.
