Following the recent Canadian brawl of Rick Ross, comedian and actor Marlon Wayans has come out with an impassionate plea to the hip-hop community: stop the violence and negativity now before it’s too late.
Wayans took to social media to pen a lengthy thoughts post. It began realism-tasti-cally:

“It’s all fun and games until people start getting hurt.”
And he should know—Wayans wasn’t just speaking from the peanut gallery. He claims to have known Tupac and Biggie personally, stating he even partied with both of them shortly before their tragic deaths.
“I saw them both 20 minutes before they got shot,”
Wayans revealed, driving home the point that violence in the hip-hop world is no joke. It’s a sobering thought, isn’t it? One minute, you’re chit-chatting with friends; the next… well, let’s just say Wayans doesn’t want to see that again.
But it wasn’t all bad news. Wayans made sure he shared the love with others, as he gave shoutouts to Drake, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, and The Game. It was pretty clear that his message was, basically,
“There’s enough success to be had out here, so ain’t no sense in fighting over scraps.”.
Wayne clasped J. Cole as an example, praising how the rapper walked away from negativity. It’s a bold move in an industry that often thrives on beef and drama, but Wayans thinks it is the way to go.
“Life is short,” Wayans reminded everyone,
“even shorter if you spend your energy on breaking each other down instead of building each other up.”
It’s a compelling message standing from a person who has seen the dark side of hip-hop rivalries firsthand.
Wayans is crying out for something significant that should go down in hip-hop. He feels there needs to be more unity and less violence with positive vibes. It’s a tall order, but he believes it’s crucial for the genre’s future.
As we sum this up, one can pretty much try to imagine what hip-hop could be if all the artists took Wayan’s words home. Would we get new crops of collaboration and mutual support? Only time will tell, though without question, Marlon Wayans did throw a good deal of food for thought within the hip-hop community.
