Roc Nation Launches New Publishing Company
Exciting Roc Nation News: Jay-Z forms a long-term partnership with the book industry, ten years after his acclaimed memoir “Decoded” release.
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay, is starting an imprint with Random House. The publishing house is called Roc Lit 101. Random House and Roc Nation made a joint announcement promising “books at the dynamic intersection of entertainment and genre-defying literature.”
Next summer’s initial releases include “Till the End,” a memoir by retired pitching star CC Sabathia, and “Shine Bright,” a book by music journalist Danyel Smith about Black women in music, combining memoir, criticism, and biography.
More Upoming Book Releases
New releases include a book by Meek Mill on “criminal justice and survival,” along with memoirs by rappers Yo Gotti and Fat Joe. In addition, there will be a fantasy fiction release from rapper Lil Uzi Vert, along with everything from cookbooks to children’s stories.
Who Will Lead Roc Lit 101 From Roc Nation
Roc Lit 101 will be led by Jana Fleishman, executive vice president of Roc Nation. She will work with Chris Jackson, publisher and editor-in-chief of random house’s imprint, One World.
Jackson shared his thoughts on the motivation behind creating this new publishing venture:
“Our goal for the imprint is to produce books that tap into the best of pop culture – its creative storytellers, innovators, and literary chroniclers – to create captivating and beautifully written works that entertain, engage, and shed light on important issues.”
Fleishman added her sentiments in a statement about these stories:
“We’re honored to amplify diverse voices and explore uncharted worlds through untold stories.”
Expecting Books from Jay & Bey
Random House has yet to comment on whether Jay-Z himself will publish a book through Roc Lit 101. Nonetheless, the new imprint is a good look for folks with the desire to release their stories.
