Selena Gomez Is Joining the Beauty Community

In recent years the beauty industry has become one of the largest revenue-producing industries. Stars like Kesha, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Millie Bobby Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Taraji P. Henson have all launched personalized cosmetic lines, and now Selena Gomez is getting on board.

Gomez has always been an advocate for ’embracing the skin you’re in’. So, it only makes sense that she’s deciding to create her own products. Leading up to the announcement, fans we quick to catch on.

Her Revival Tour Instagram page name is now ‘rarebeauty’. Photos of the tour were quick to come down, and shortly after, Gomez spilled the tea.

In an Instagram live video yesterday, Gomez revealed the big news. “I am launching my own beauty brand, and it is called Rare Beauty,” she gushed. “This is something I started working on two years ago. I found the right partners and the right team…and it’s important to me because I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable.”

The Lose You to Love Me singer opened up about the pressures to adhere to certain images in today’s society. ”

Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself. I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me,” Gomez said.

Uncoincidentally, the brand’s name mimics her most recent album, Rare.

Gomez reminded her viewers, “It’s not just a brand. It’s going to be a lifestyle.” further adding, “I want girls and boys and men and women to feel comfortable. It’s meant to be enjoyed; it’s very special. We are not meant to look like everybody else; we’re meant to look like ourselves.”

Kudos to you, Selena! The brand will launch exclusively at Sephora this summer.

Do you think social media is responsible for the societal pressures many face today? Are you a Selena Gomez fan?
