SZA’s SOS album is number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It has now logged an eighth nonconsecutive week atop the chart, according to Luminate Data Services.
SZA follows her 2016 debut Ctrl with an album that is as raw and vulnerable as her lyrics were. It’s a record that defies genre tropes, bringing her to the forefront of alternative R&B and allowing her to share darker insights, brighter choruses, and a wide range of emotions.
It’s her first number 1 album
The genre-blurring R&B singer SZA’s second studio album SOS has returned to the top of the Billboard 200. After slipping to second place last week, the Top Dawg Entertainment-backed project has climbed back to the peak of the chart with an eighth non-consecutive week atop.
SZA has been able to pull off this feat because of her music which has resonated with many people. She has a knack for writing songs that are relatable to her fans and she also makes sure to be honest with herself.
She has a great reputation for being an artist that is unapologetic with her self and is always learning new things about herself. Her album SOS has been a huge success and it has topped the charts again which is a great achievement. It’s also the first time a Black female artist has managed to go straight to number 1 and this is something that is truly historic for the industry.
It’s her first number 1 single
SZA’s latest genre-bending album SOS is back at number 1 again after a fifth week atop the charts. According to Luminate Data Solutions, it garnered 125,000 equivalent album units in the United States last week, experiencing a minimal decrease of less than 1%.
SOS holds the record with eight nonconsecutive weeks at the top, making it the R&B/hip-hop album by a woman with the most weeks at number one since Drake’s Views spent 13 nonconsecutive weeks in 2022. It’s also the first R&B album to spend four consecutive weeks at number one since Janet Jackson’s janet in 1993.
SZA is currently riding high off of her sophomore effort, which features unique collaborations from Travis Scott, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Don Toliver and Phoebe Bridgers. It’s been an instant hit on streaming services and has earned a massive amount of critical acclaim. It has amassed 5.1 billion official on-demand streams in the U.S., launching SZA’s career to new heights. She is now preparing to take her SOS North American Tour on tour in February.
It’s her first number 1 album track
SZA’s second album, SOS, soared to number 1 again this week. The New Jersey-raised singer’s sophomore LP sold an additional 100,000 equivalent album units during the latest tracking period, which is enough to propel her record atop the Billboard 200 chart.
The chart-topping LP has now spent eight weeks at the top, which is the longest amount of time for an R&B/hip-hop album by a female artist to reach the top since Taylor Swift’s folklore back in 2020.
Streaming data from Billboard confirms that SZA’s SOS has achieved the biggest streaming week ever for an R&B album and third-largest among all albums in 2022. SZA’s 23-track project has already earned RIAA Gold and Platinum certification.
With her upcoming 17-date SOS North American Tour with opening act Omar Apollo, SZA is on the verge of taking her musical career to the next level. She is arguably one of the most exciting and innovative young artists of our generation.
It’s her first number 1 album video
SZA is the first female R&B artist to notch eight straight weeks atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with her latest full-length, SOS. The release of her music video for “Kill Bill,” inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s female-fronted martial arts movies, helped the album collect 125,000 equivalent album units this week, according to data from Luminate Audio.
This is the first time SZA’s studio album has topped the charts since she released her 2017 project Ctrl. The TDE songstress previously earned three-times platinum status with her debut album, and Ctrl went on to spend 288 consecutive weeks on the chart, earning 3.9 million equivalent album units.
SZA will take her SOS era to the road this month with her first-ever arena tour, featuring special guest Omar Apollo. The tour begins February 21 in Columbus, Ohio. SZA is set to perform her hits from SOS in all its glory on the road. The SOS tour will make stops in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Seattle, and Vancouver.
