Earlier this week, a San Antonio man called 911 to report that his truck was missing from his northside home. Then he and two relatives tracked the stolen vehicle using Apple AirTags.
On Wednesday, March 29, the family spotted the truck in a parking lot on the southeast side of town. They got out of their truck and confronted the person inside it.
They saw a gun, the family member told SAPD officers. When he confronted the thief, he pulled out his own gun and fired it into the truck.
The alleged thief, who police said was a Hispanic male in his 30s, was later pronounced dead. It is unclear if the man who shot and killed him will face any charges.
The Truck’s Owners Shot and Killed the Stolen Vehicle Suspect

When he confronted the thief, who may have whipped out a gun, the truck’s owner shot him in the head, police said. Herrera died in the hospital, according to CBS News.
The incident teaches people not to pursue suspects on their own, police say. “If you are to get your vehicle stolen, I know that’s frustrating, but please do not take matters into your own hands like this,” San Antonio police public information officer Nick Soliz told reporters during a news briefing.
