The 5 Best Moments From The 2022 MTV VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards Show puts out the best the music industry has to offer. Everything from the live performances, raunchy jokes from hosts, acceptance speeches and outrageous wardrobes makes for pure entertainment. Though, this year’s MTV VMAs were especially interesting. After living in isolation and dealing with the novel pandemic for two years now, fans were more than happy to see their favorite stars all over again.

Clearly, this Sunday night at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center was a big deal for a lot of people. Over the weekend, Johnny Depp became the moon-man in virtual reality, Taylor Swift announced the October 21 release date for her new album Midnights and Anitta made history after being the first Brazilian to accept an MTV VMA award. Not to mention, the Italian glam rockers Måneskin performed while wearing black chaps over a jock strap, showing off too much skin. Clearly, the awards show was filled with entertainment for the evening. Though, there’s only a handful of moments that really got the ball rolling. Here are the top five moments from MTV’s 2022 VMAs:

Nicki Minaj Celebrates Her Lifetime Of Achievements

There’s no awards show that doesn’t have Nicki Minaj listed as a performer. These days, the New York rapper has made a huge comeback to the music scene. Her return to rap music was made clear during last night’s performance at the 2022 MTV VMAs.

Furthermore, the new mom performed all her greatest hits, including her latest “Super Freaky Girl” track. Donned in a pink and sparkling ensemble, with her long colored tresses and the eye-contacts to match, Minaj really outdid herself. Aside from her colorful appearance, Minaj accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Now it’s the Grammy’s turn to hand Nicki Minaj her flowers.

While Nicki Minaj owned her moment in the spotlight, Lizzo undoubtedly did so as well. The flute-playing rapper took to the stage to accept her “Video for Good” award. During her acceptance speech, the 34-year-old took the time to call out all the internet trolls and haters who body-shamed her. In particular, Lizzo addressed Comedian Aries Spears who compared her body to a poop emoji. People are really a piece of work. “To the b****es that got something to say to me in the press,” she began. Eventually, she decided to reframe from dissing the former Mad TV comedian. Instead, Lizzo took the high-road and boasted about her VMA win. Who doesn’t love that moment?

Eminem & Snoop Dogg Join Forces In Virtual Reality

Clearly, the MTV VMAs were dominated by HipHop and rap music’s biggest stars in the industry. On Sunday, Snoop Dogg and Eminem also joined the lineup of performers to perform at the awards show.

Furthermore, the honorary rappers collaborated for the first time  on the VMA stage for a metaverse-inspired performance of “From the D 2 the LBC.” The hybrid performance of real-life and web33 technology left fans in utter surprise.

Bad Bunny Has A Lil Nas X Moment With A Backup Dancer

Additionally, Bad Bunny virtually performed his chart-topping hits for his “World’s Hottest Tour.” The 28-year-old brought the house down with his hip-shaking dance number filmed from the Yankee Stadium stage sports arena. Furthermore, it’s the first time the VMAs did a live broadcast from the sports arena. The Artist of the Year winner didn’t just give an outstanding performance though. He also shared a Lil Nas X moment after sharing a kiss with one of his backstage dancers. The guys are stepping up and really spreading the love these days.

Jack Harlow Joined The Stage With Fergie

Last on our list comes Jack Harlow’s airplane-inspired performance of his hit song “First Class.” Having just stepped onto the rap scene, Harlow has dominated the music charts. The rapper can’t be stopped.

On Sunday night, he especially made it clear that he’s untouchable. Furthermore, the Louisville, KY native brought out his surprise guest Fergie during the performance. By her song being heavily sampled in Harlow’s “First Class,” it seems only right that they share the spotlight together. Jack Harlow definitely seems to love the ladies.
