The audacious dog that captured the internet’s attention over its epic climb to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza has been found in safety. Dubbed by fans as “Anubis Pup,” this adventurous canine stole hearts and whipped up a frenzy of concern when a video emerged of it frolicking at the pyramid’s peak, chasing birds and generally living life.
It started on October 14, 2024, when paramotor pilot Marshall Mosher was flying high over the Giza plateau. Up at the top, something caught his eye. Much to his astonishment, a dog barked at birds, showing remarkable agility while working itself up and down the precipitous rocky face.
Somehow, the sight was humorous and a cause for concern all at once, and Marshall began running the camera. Since then, the footage has gone viral into the millions of viewings, as people grounded themselves in curiosity about the safety of the dog: would this spirited pup make his way back down safely?
Thankfully, the answer was a resounding yes. The fearless canine, later identified as a local dog said to be seen roaming the grounds, made its way to the bottom of the pyramid on its own accord. Mosher uploaded a follow-up entry that included the dog lying on the floor, and further cemented a communal sigh of relief from its just-adopted fan base.
The surprise turn was that many social media users joked that Mosher and his crew had found Anubis, the Egyptian god associated more with dogs. The nickname “Anubis Pup” seemed to stick and gave an added layer of charm to an already captivating story told by the pup.
Describing himself as an adventure athlete, Mosher took to social media to share his experience with the now-famous dog. He explained that the canine companions often roam the area in their own sense of adventure climbing the 454-foot monument.
According to Mosher, dogs have marked the pyramids as their home and they just aren’t afraid at all to explore the majesty around them.
In a resounding message, Mosher invited other adventurers to join him next year’s paragliding event over the pyramids as they get to meet the fabled “King Pupankhumuns.”
“Paragliding over the Great Pyramids of Giza today was sure surreal and reminded me that no dream is too big,” he exclaimed. “We live in an era where the extraordinary is within reach, more than ever before, so why not chase the life of our dreams!?”
The incident has entertained not only the viewers but also brought a light-hearted conversation online. Many shared stories of adventurous pets and compared the daring dog with their fur babies. It also seems that this little canine has become a symbol of bravery and curiosity, reminding us all of the adventurous spirit inside each one of us.
It is not the first time dogs have headlined adventures in famous places. From scaling the Eiffel Tower to exploring the ruins at Machu Picchu, dogs seem to find their way into remarkable situations. Each story adds to the rich tapestry of canine adventure, showcasing their playful nature and unyielding curiosity.
