In the past four years, sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey have become one of pop culture’s most recognizable and successful singing duos. Recently Halle Bailey is known for her star role in the upcoming live-action remake of Ariel while Chloe Bailey is releasing a new album.
The Bailey twins started out singing in church. They’ve always been close and grew up playing sports together, but they didn’t start pursuing music until their early teens. They’re now based in Los Angeles, and both sing R&B.
Accomplishments
The sisters have accomplished so much in a small period, like landing a spot on ESSENCE’s cover of the month and costarring alongside Yara Shahidi in the popular Freeform series Grown-ish. They have also opened for Beyonce, toured with JAY-Z, and even performed in Beyonce’s Lemonade visual album.
Beyonce discovered Bailey’s sisters after hearing their YouTube cover of Pretty Hurts and signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment. She has since been a mentor to the duo and has helped them craft their unique sound by reminding them to “trust their gift” and to “let the world catch up to them.”
Since then, they’ve soared to fame, showcasing their talents on TV and in music videos, starring in Ivy Park campaigns, and walking the runway for brands. But it’s the duo’s awe-inspiring vocals that have made them one of the biggest music sensations around.
The duo’s ethereal melding of gymnastic sentiment and acrobatic ad-libs has a ’90s-inflected style that draws from the best Black pop artists of the era. While they’ve carved their own sonic space, they never forget where they’ve come from, with Beyonce as their inspiration and Solange serving as their musical mentor.
As a result, they’ve managed to evolve into a truly unique pop R&B duo. The women’s voices — Chloe with a strong, classic R&B vibrato and Halle with a languid, dreamy quality – are both aural masterpieces.
They’ve been making a name for themselves since they first posted covers on YouTube, racking millions of views and shares in just a few short years. Whether they’re covering a song, performing together, or singing solo, the sisters have incredible chemistry. The connection between them is undeniable, and their music beautifully blends pop, soul, and R&B.
Their harmonies are so powerful that they can lift the spirit of any audience, regardless of age or genre. That’s why they’ve been able to secure such a high profile as young singers, especially with the upcoming release of their debut album.
