    Philadelphia Flyers fire head coach

he Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach Alain Vigneault after suffering their eighth consecutive loss. Vigneault had a hard time finding success with the Flyers. Vigneaults tenure with the Flyers was rather short spanning a mere two full seasons and he only managed to complete a quarter of his third and final season with the organization. It is worth noting that at the time. Vigneault was in the midst of his third year under a five year contract. Earning a notable $5 million annually as reported by ABC News.

There’s no secret that the Flyers haven’t been very good for some time. However, in the past, they have been competitive with respectable teams. As of late, it was a common theme to see them being embarrassed by opposing teams either on the road or at home. The news came directly after the Flyers got embarrassed by the Tampa Bay Lightning at home, 7-1.

Vigneault was hired by the Flyers in 2019 and joined the organization with only 1,216 games of head-coaching experience. Vigneault previously coached the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, and Montreal Canadiens. He was rewarded the Jack Adams award in 2007 with the Canucks.

    The team shows great promise

The Philadelphia Flyers show promise in his first season with the organization. They made the playoffs in 2019 and were eliminated in the 2nd round. They later than digressed these past several years. The Flyers ended last year sixth out of eight places in their division, ultimately missing the playoffs.

All in all, Philadelphia made significant improvements this offseason. Including, trading for veterans Ryan Ellis and Cam Atkinson. These moves have yet to translate to winning, however, the team has battled injury since early in the season. The general manager Chuck Fletcher believes the slow start was based upon their ability not to stay healthy.

“We’re not prioritizing interviews and quickly hiring a head coach,” Fletcher stated prior to the game. “Our main focus is to support Mike.”
