Abbott Elementary is a comedy series set in a Philadelphia public school that promotes optimism and perseverance. A crew of filmmakers chronicles the daily lives of teachers in underfunded and mismanaged schools, focusing on the hard-working public servants who get through each day.
The show’s creator Quinta Brunson is a former teacher herself and said the inspiration for the series was her mother, who taught for 40 years. In addition, the show is set in Philadelphia, Brunson’s hometown, and its name is inspired by her friend Joyce Abbott, who was one of her teachers.
In Season 2 Episode 14, “Valentine’s Day,” Janine finds out one of her students has a crush on her and turns to a colleague for advice. When she does, she accidentally learns a secret about another teacher.
Mo Brings a Telfar Bag
After school, Gregory’s student Mo brings a Telfar bag to Janine’s desk. The teacher is confused, but it’s a nice gesture, and she reorganizes her desk to make room for it.
A Valentine’s Gift Is Finally In The Air
Outside Janine’s classroom, Gregory asks her for advice on a Lego flower bouquet he plans to give Amber as a gift. As she ponders whether or not to advise him, Janine realizes she doesn’t know what’s in his heart. She also notices that he’s still in love with Amber.
Despite all that, the show’s romantic bombshell is delivered in a classic rom-com fashion. And it’s a very, very fun one at that.
