Timothée Chalamet made an unexpected appearance at his own lookalike contest held in New York City on October 27th, 2024. The event, taking place in Washington Square Park, was plunged into complete chaos as overjoyed fans and contestants alike swarmed everywhere.
Wearing a mask and a baseball cap, Chalamet was largely incognito as he mingled with lookalikes, all of them dressed as some of his film characters – Wonka and Dune among them – and having his picture taken with them.
The contest, hosted by YouTuber Anthony Po, offered a $50 prize for the best lookalike. The atmosphere was electric, with fans and lookalikes some dressed as characters from Chalamet’s films.
That excitement, however, was briefly deterred as the NYPD stepped in to disperse the huge crowd, issuing the organizers a $500 fine for holding an unpermitted costume contest. The police even arrested one of the contestants-for reasons still not certain. The competition spirit moved afterward to a playground nearby after that setback
Miles Mitchell won the event in his full Willy Wonka attire, sending the crowd into a frenzy with an ending that included tossing candy into the audience that left attendees abuzz. All of this was taken to another level of fun when Chalamet made his surprise visit, mingling with contestants and fans alike, posing for photos and sharing laughs.
Timothée Chalamet seemed to take the experience in stride as he spoke candidly of the doppelganger contest during his appearance. He seemed to approach the situation with humor and humility, saying, “It kinda got old after a while but I’ll take it.” He was excited to meet new people, and he made it known that he did not care too much about the cash prizes associated with the contest. This reflected his light-hearted attitude and appreciation for fan engagement.
This surprise visit has been very well received by the general public. His fans were very enthusiastic; they were thrilled to see him during this surprise visit, and most of them even shared their experiences on social media.
The event was rather entertaining and an interactive manner in which Chalamet could bond with his fans, his involvement just adding one of those twists. The intervention of the police did raise one or two eyebrows but did nothing to dampen the spirits.
