Top 3 Phillies Updates: Zack Wheeler, Joe Girardi, & Roman Quinn.
As we approach June, here are the top 3 phillies updates.
The Phillies have been struggling as the injuries pile up with key players including Bryce Harper (Brused Wrist), JT Realmuto (Bone Bruise on left hand), Scott Kingery (Concussion), Didi Gregorious (Elbow Soreness), JoJo Romero (Tommy John), and Matt Moore (Back Spasms). Now they add Roman Quinn back on the IL for a injury on his left achillies tendon.
However, there are still some positives to look out as Zack Wheeler has done well striking out 10+ more batters in 4 consecutive games. Rhys Hoskins bat is still doing well. Yet, they still hope for a surge once fans are back in full force at Citizen’s Bank Park. Because of their struggling team, Joe Girardi has decided to take any strategic advantage he can get by saying no he will not give out injury updates on active players. Let’s hope the guys can turn it around. Taking a closer look, here are the top 3 Phillies Updates.
Top 3 Phillies Updates:
1. Zack wheeler struck out 14 batters.
Zack Wheeler made career history when he struck out 14 batters. The pitch that got him thre waws his 98.2 mph fastball and his slider against lefthanders. Unfortunately, the game did not end in a win. Wheeler has been great for the Phillies. In fact, his last three games had 10 or more strikeouts. He joins the elite Steve Calton and Curt Schilling as the only other Phillies to accomplish this feat.

2. Joe girardi says no to injury updates on active players
The Skipper has spoken. After playing fast and loose with information regarding Bryce Harper and alluding to the outfielder as on the roster despite his bruised wrist, Girardi has clarified his decision.
“The idea here is to win games…there are distinct advantages I could give to another club if they know everything that is going on over here.”
He says he will no longer release information on active players with injuries as it takes away the strategic advantage against other teams. So for now, he’s keeping that information close to his chest but says he has no problem discussing a player that is on the injured list.
“It’s not fair to us because it puts us at a disadvantage if the other manager knows that we can’t use someone. So if he’s on our roster, he’s available.”
3. Roman Quinn damaged his achillies, out for the season but may be career ending.
Roman Quinn is out for the season due to an achillies injury that may spark the end of his MLB career. He injured his achilies tendon in the fifth inning after agressively running to third. The outfielder managed to score the run but was seen hopping and limping to the plate before collapsing.
Quinn had to be carried off the field and will have to get an MRI of the injury to find out the severity. Nonetheless, he will no longer play this season and the Phillies may choose to let him go now that his contract is up for arbitration. This has been a long run of injuries that plagued him throughout his career.
“It doesn’t look good,” -Girardi “I don’t expect to get any good news from the MRI.”
