Travis Scott Reveals Pirate-Themed Album Is Coming Soon

Travis Scott is breaking new ground—at least, that’s what fans are hoping. Since rumors of the pirate-themed album came about, the net has been abuzz with anticipation, memes, and growing curiosity. The rapper and producer famous for taking albums on as complete worlds is about to drop another life-sized experience—and this time it may just be accompanied by a pirate’s banner, compass, and possibly even some sea shanties.

Although nothing is officially announced, Scott’s own words have just stoked the embers. Recently, he’s spoken about being impressed with “the freedom and lawlessness” of pirates—a sensibility that feels so at home in his universe of mayhem, color, and velocity of creativity. Fans suspect the album could be called Mirage based on merch teasers released last year, as well as speculation on the name such as Cactus Jack Sparrow—the cheeky reference being both his record label name as well as the name of a certain rum-guzzling captain.

So how does this possible pirate motif fit into Scott’s creative trajectory as a whole? If you take a step back, it makes complete sense. He remapped his childhood theme park in the form of an amped-up sonic carnival with Astroworld. He plunged headfirst into psychedelic, mind-bending material in Utopia, leading fans on a sonic, spectacular adventure through the future. An album based on pirates? That’s just the logical progression for an artist who is obsessed with building worlds. Is it deserts, outer space, the high seas? Travis doesn’t drop just albums—he drops worlds.

Recently, in an interview with Complex, Scott made it clear that the new music is being designed for the big top.

“I want to get in the ear of the person that’s way up in the nosebleeds,” he stated. “I want the music to sound like they’re sitting right next to me.”

That translates to gigantic energy, huge production, and cannonball-thumping beats. His chart-topper “4×4,” which debuted in at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March, came together on tour—right after he departed his stadium gig’s stage. “That’s why I love it so much,” he shared

Don’t expect this to be only about the show, however. Travis is also focusing on having some fun again. In talking with Billboard and Cultured, he made it clear about returning to hands-on creativity—making beats, producing for others, and reconnecting with his artistic foundation.

I just want to have the most ultimate fun with being creative,” he shared with Complex. And that includes collaborations, as well. He’s talked about being really interested in collaborating with Taylor Swift as well as Sabrina Carpenter—yeah, that Taylor Swift—and the Texas-bred band Khruangbin, whose dreamy, genre-defying sound is infectious. Put those worlds together with Travis’s frenetic energy. It could be magic.

TRAVIS SCOTT GOT CRAZY PLANS FOR 2025 - 3 POSSIBLE NEW ALBUMS

Naturally, the followup to Utopia is no easy task. That 2023 album was a commercial force, launching at No. 1 and leading to an international tour that locked down Scott’s place as one of the great live performers out there. But if he’s learned anything, it’s that he’s never not afraid to switch things up. Every album is the beginning of a new chapter—and this one, whether it flies the Jolly Roger banner or not, is going to be one heck of a wild ride.

There is no release date, no song list, no pirate-inspired imagery at this point. And yet, the rumor is true. Regardless of whether he decides to call it Mirage, Cactus Jack Sparrow, or whatever else, the hints that he has given us all lead in one direction: Travis Scott is about to unleash something immersive, theatrical, and completely out of the box.
