Trump Loses E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case, Judge Says He’s Liable

Trump Faces Civil Liability in E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case

Donald Trump has been in the news again, this time for his comments about E. Jean Carroll, a writer who accused him of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s. Trump has vehemently refuted the accusations, branding them as both “falsehoods” and “fabrications.”

In 2019, Carroll published an article in New York magazine in which she detailed the alleged assault. She said that she met Trump at Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan and that he invited her to try on a dress in a dressing room. Once inside, she said, Trump forced himself on her and raped her.

Trump has denied the allegations, calling them “fake news” and “a total fabrication.” He has also accused Carroll of lying for money.

In April 2023, a jury in New York City found Trump liable for defaming Carroll by calling her a liar. The jury awarded Carroll $2 million in damages.

Trump has appealed the verdict, but it is still considered a major legal victory for Carroll. This marks the inaugural instance where a jury has held Trump accountable for sexual misconduct.

The case has also sparked significant inquiries into the #MeToo movement and the empowerment of women to share their experiences of sexual assault. Carroll’s courage in speaking out has inspired other women to share their own stories, and it has helped to change the way that society views sexual assault.

The case is still ongoing, and it is unclear what the ultimate outcome will be. However, it is clear that the allegations against Trump have had a significant impact on his life and career.
