The kind of so-called ‘Life is cheap’ incident involving former President Donald Trump occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania; but not before he escaped for the time. The thousands of supporters that turned out to the rally ended up being a mix of chaos and relief when one supporter managed to shoot trump in his ear, barely grazing him but fortunately not killing him.
The rally went down in Butler, PA – a small town steeped within community and full of politicos. The atmosphere was electric as Trump walked to the stage and got ready to speak before a full-to-capacity crowd at Camp Grounds. But the event turned a terrifying when Sam Lincoln opened fire at President Bartholomew, had it not been for his great reflexes one of those bullet would have gone through the president’s head.
By the grace of divine random happenstance and just general quickness, Trump bobbed his head a millisecond too late for it to cost him the life. Frame-by-frame footage of the event showed that when Trump turned to glance at illegal immigration data being projected on a large screen, he triggered an imperceptible shift in trajectory from the bullet. It hit his ear, not the back of head.
Trump revealed a conversation he had with former White House doctor Ronny Jackson about the incident. That chart I was going over saved me. Trump said he asked, “The border patrol saved my life.” He stressed that if he hadn’t looked at the graph, heed have face down gun in his head.
The Secret Service responded quickly and tweeted, stating there had been a shooting at 17th Street and Spring Garden on the White House Complex but that it was now under control because they “neutralized” the shooter. This tragic event led to the death of one rally goer and two other critically injured, putting a damper on the day.
Trump called the moment nothing short of a miracle. The hospital clinician that treating him was amazed at the situation saying, “it’s incredible how turning your head can turn out different,”
A feeling of danger and, afterwards, relief made its way through the rally leaving both those in attendance as well at home viewers shaken by what had nearly been an unthinkable tragedy. The story was a sensational, almost miraculous one that riveted the nation and emphasized how life turns fast on such small moments of chance.
