Among other, much more toxic things, Jada Pinkett Smith has been very open about her own alopecia. She revealed this week that her late companion Tupac Shakur also suffered from it. The Red Table Talk host said that her late “soulmate” also struggled with the disease.
Jada Pinkett and Tupac Shakur’s Alopecia Battle
She said that it caused his hair to start falling out erratically. Jada said that she doesn’t think Tupac ever talked about the alopecia that he experienced. Since she was his best friend, she knew for sure that he had it.
She said that the onset of his alopecia actually happened around 1991. It came after the police in Northern California brutally beat him up while in their custody. It also raises the awareness of the need to redefine societal beauty standards.
Jada committed herself to the struggle of beauty standards as she shared her story. Her recent comments about Tupac, whose hair loss was a very public and private struggle, offer hope to those who are dealing with the same issues.
The revelation comes as the actress promotes her memoir, Worthy, which was released on Friday. Jada has been promoting the likely drama-filled book by opening up about her long-term “friendship” with Tupac.
She called 2pac her true soulmate and further shares their shared struggle with alopecia. This latest revelation will no doubt spark more interest in both the book and the topic of alopecia. This will hopefully lead to more research and support for those affected by it.
