In an unexpected turn of history, the music world has converged with the digital world, but strangely. The singer, songwriter, and record producer from the United States, Ty Dolla Sign, whose lyrics have often enthralled fans of soulful music and signature beats, has joined forces with a Russian photo and video content producer, Vitaly on Kick – the viciously known name in the internet prank business.
Their ambitious task is to catch people they believe are child predators. “10 nights of takedowns” have landed the first live stream, which shows how multiple men biting on the bait were caught by the duo. This collaboration immediately brought up discussions on whether celebrities should serve justice and how harmful such behavior can be in online environments.

One clip that has gone viral shows Vitaly and Ty Dolla Sign in a tense confrontation with a man who allegedly attempted to meet a 15-year-old. The pair decided to ‘make an example’ of him by partially shaving his head and throwing a fake grenade after him as he fled the scene.
“Why do you want to meet a 15-year-old boy for sex?” Vitaly asked the man, directly questioning if he was a pedophile. Despite the man’s denials and claims of being a ‘good person,’ the duo took turns shaving some of his hair. When asked why they were doing so, Vitaly explained, “Because you want to meet a 15-year-old boy, we’re going to make an example out of you, bro.”
Over the weekend, Ty Dolla showcased his versatility as a creator. He joined Vitaly on a Kick move wherein they went ‘pedophile looking’ in Los Angeles. This worried posing as younger girls online to satisfy older men. While those types of films and live streams can now and then devolve into vigilante missions without a clear reason, they also highlight the potential dangers lurking in the virtual world.
In a different scenario, another setup with an alleged predator goes awry after an innocent passerby knocks out the man, prompting Vitaly and Ty Dolla Sign to call the paramedics. The blood flowed on the pavement as Ty and Vitaly called 911. Many of the posts from viewers on social media suggested policies and regulations governing the attempts of vigilantism.
The music world may be evolving, but that does not diminish the relatively new approach currently being taken. While artists such as Ty Dolla Sign have a platform, they also need to do it responsibly. It can be dangerous, and there are ethical concerns.
