Tyrese Gibson, an American actor, was arrested on September 10, 2024, for failure to pay court-ordered child support. The 45-year-old Fast & Furious star was taken into custody after a judge ruled he was in contempt of court for not paying the full amount for child support owed to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson.
Previously, in April 2023, the court had ordered Tyrese to pay $10,000 a month in child support. However, Tyrese was paying only $2,200 a month and was thus accumulating unpaid obligations. This difference was at the center of a prolonging legal battle between Tyrese and Samantha.
At the bar, Judge Kevin Farmer heard the case, which led to Tyrese being taken into custody. He showed his frustration as Tyrese had not complied with any of the prior orders. For not paying the $10,000 monthly, he was held in contempt, and hence he is sent to custody immediately.
Tyrese didn’t go down without a fight. The R&B star has taken to the courts and social media, speaking his mind on what he perceives as favoritism within the legal system. He also declared that the legal system was taking sides against fathers and complained of financial hardship as a result of the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
Tyrese will need to pay a total of $73,000 in back child support and attorney’s fees to get out of jail. Sources close to the situation say he is currently making the arrangement to pay the amount, which may lead to his release from custody anytime soon.
