Del Rio’s controversial comments made regarding Floyd and the United States Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, as a “dustup” forced the Commanders front office and HC Ron Rivera to step in. Are the Commanders Holding Del Rio Accountable Enough?
The Commanders’ DC Del Rio was simply fined, $100,000, for his hurtful and distasteful comments. While it’s not stated publicly how much he makes annually, it’s safe to say this fine is a drop in the bucket compared to his annual salary. Many believe the punishment should have been more effective to help send a message around the NFL. Many were hoping of the NFL to make an example of him. While some wanted to simply just hurt him in his pockets even more.
However, some players stood out and voiced their opinions about the matter. One of the most well-known names, Washington Commanders DE Jonathan Allen spoke with NBC Sports Washington. He expressed his coach and everyone has a right to their opinion while he may or may not disagree shouldn’t matter. He emphasized he’s here to play
As long as he consistently shows up and works hard, I couldn’t care less about his opinion. That’s all I expect from my defensive coordinator.
