A story including Rick Ross getting punched in Canada has been making the rounds recently, and now it’s finally clear what went down because the man behind the punch—a Drake fan going by the name of “Icarus“—has come forward to explain what happened. According to “Icarus,” this incident at Vancouver’s Ignite Music Festival went down as Ross was leaving the stage, playing Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” That song highly disses Drake, which must have agitated the Drake fans there in the audience.
The fan who connected with the punch, Icarus, explained in an after-action interview that things got physical after Ross allegedly called him and his crew “white boys,” which they perceived to be disrespectful. According to Icarus, he didn’t throw a punch in Drake’s favor or as part of any beef with Kendrick Lamar, but rather as a reaction to what they perceived to be a racial slight.
In the above video, there’s even a chain reportedly from Sam Sneak, Rick Ross’s longtime DJ. The lyrics troll Ross for his behavior during the viral fight at Vancouver’s Ignite Music Festival, where he and his entourage were jumped after playing Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss song “Not Like Us” while on stage. Icarus raps,
“Capping on the ‘Gram, you was stumbling out the gate /
Searching for the exit, left your DJ like some bait /
Fed him to the demons, too conceited to explain /
You a bird and a bitch, I clipped your wings, stop the games.”
Ross had previously downplayed the incident but it seems the “White Boy” track has now reignited the controversy. Drake joined in the action, too—nearly subtly trolling Ross on social media by celebrating Canada Day and rapping along to a song from Vancouver-based the Rascalz.
Post-fight, Icarus answered the call with a diss record, “White Boy,” over a remix of DJ Khaled and Drake’s “For Free.” Therein, he makes fun of Ross’ fleeing from the scene, leaving behind his DJ. The song also jabs at Ross about his life as a correctional officer and says he fabricated some parts of what happened during the fight.
On the other hand, Rick Ross used social media to try and downplay the situation, stating that he wasn’t hit and claiming any blow he got was exaggerated.
