A tragedy in downtown Miami killed two men in August 2024 after social media model Maecee Marie Lathers was under the influence of a strong party drug and caused an unfortunate crash. The incident unfolded when Lathers, driving a white Mercedes-Benz, jumped the red light and hit two vehicles, changing the lives of the victims’ families forever.
According to police, on August 10, 2024, social media personality Lathers, 24, was allegedly high on “pink cocaine,” otherwise known as “tusi.” The illicit concoction consists of a ketamine mixture laced with other substances that has recently become popular in party scenes though highly lethal and unpredictable. Lathers would later admit to taking the drug prior to getting behind the wheel-a decision that would lead to a tragic chain of events.
At nearly 80 mph-her foot to the floor-Lathers blew through a red light in downtown Miami. Her Mercedes broadsided a Range Rover and a sedan, killing the occupants of the sedan, 30-year-old Abraham Molina and 28-year-old Jesus Rubio, on impact. A flurry of 911 calls went out after the violent force of the collision, but the two victims were beyond help.

Eyewitnesses and security cameras recorded the scene of chaos. In a bizarre show of erratic behavior, Lathers sought to run away from the site of the accident on foot, as if attempting to flee the carnage she had caused. People around stopped her from running away. She was seen topless, vomiting, screaming incoherently as police arrived at the scene. Lathers made bizarre claims, telling officers she was “from the future” and that she could see through a “crystal ball,” further emphasizing the disturbing effects of the drugs she had taken.
The toxicology report showed she was under a number of substances, spurring charges of vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, reckless driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident. Despite such heinous acts committed, Lathers was able to post her bond for $26,000, releasing her onto house arrest pending trial. Her case in court will likely extend into the end of 2024, and as of yet, no defense has come forth from her and her lawyers.
