The world’s most giant afro: Louisiana woman breaks Guinness record
When 47-year-old Aevin Dugas walks into a room, all eyes are on her. Her afro has grown to an impressive 9.84 in tall, 10.4 in wide, and 5.41 feet in circumference.
Her afro results from her desire to stop using chemicals on her hair. She stopped using relaxers, a chemical straightener and switched to natural products that help her grow her hair naturally.
She says she is not bothered by comments about her afro, but she has some concerns with its length. When she wears it out, she sometimes gets her hair caught in trees, cars, and people’s earrings.
Despite her worries, she has no regrets about choosing to go natural. She says her afro has made her more confident and happy.
She also said she likes how her hair helps her “become this figure in a room full of people that everyone will notice.”
This isn’t the first time Dugas has broken the record; she set it in 2010 with a circumference measuring 4ft 4in (132cm). She beat that record in 2021, with almost 5ft 2in (157cm) and then set her current mark of nearly 165cm in September 2022.
Her hair is more than 9 (25cm) tall and 10 (26cm) wide, requiring frequent trims and styling regimens. She said she uses hot oil treatments and butter she makes herself to keep her hair moisturized.
