Yoshi24k, downtown New York’s new poster child, opens the door to his universe
with the release of his 6-track mixtape, ALIEN. Leaning into the esoteric sonics that distinguish him most, ALIEN introduces a young artist on the threshold of his breakout moment. The project includes standout singles “Gang” featuring Lil Yachty and “Fly Away,” a collaboration with multi-platinum producer FKi 1st. Additional production comes from SHAM, Zetra, YB and Neeko Baby; the latter produced Playboi Carti’s recent smash single “@ MEH.” Earlier this month, Yoshi24k announced the project with the release of the music video for “Boast.” Filmed during lockdown in New York, the “Boast” video has earned over 200k views in the past two weeks. Listen to ALIEN here.
Growing up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Yoshi24k is a familiar face amongst the new generation shaping downtown fashion and culture. It was through hustling and constantly moving around the city that led him to rap —his first experience on the mic was hopping on a track with Smokepurpp in 2017. Yoshi24k, whose government name is Aly, was also famously referenced in Sheck Wes’ breakthrough hit, “Mo Bamba,” with the line “Where’s Aly with the motherfucking dope?” He shared more of that story in his first in-depth interview with Travis Mills on Beats 1 Radio, as well as on his single, “Pot.” With his father from Mali and his mother from Japan, Yoshi24k’s complex cultural identity and unorthodox creative approach is shaped by his time spent on three different continents.
Continuing to release all of his music independently, Yoshi24k has consistently put up major numbers: videos for “Super Saiyan” and “Pot” have earned over a million
views a piece, and his “Coincidental” video surpassed 700k within weeks. Yoshi24k was tapped by Rolling Loud Festival to represent New York for their first line-up in New York. With more new music and exciting collaborations set to be unveiled this month, Yoshi24k continues to set himself as an artist to watch in 2020.
