American Idol temporarily replaces Katy Perry as one of the judges! Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, aka Katy Perry, will perform at King Charles III’s coronation concert in England. Lionel Richie will accompany Perry in the event on May 6, at Windsor Castle in London.
Co-judge Luke Bryan revealed that there will be a “big time” replacement for Katy and Richie. The country star has been a part of the long-running singing competition for 16 seasons. Bryan said that he could not share more details about who will be replacing Katy and Richie on the show.
Katy Perry temporarily replaced as judge
The temporary replacements will include singers Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran. Both will mentor the Top 8 contestants on the show and perform their own songs during their stint as judges. Sheeran will also give the finalists an exclusive performance of his new song.
Both Sheeran and Morissette will be a guest on Sunday’s episode, which airs live coast to coast in the States. Sheeran will perform duets with the finalists, while Morissette will sing her own songs.
Katy’s 6th season as an American Idol judge
When news of Sheeran and Morissette’s appearance was announced, many of the top 8 were ecstatic. Contestants jumped out of their seats and shared their excitement with fans on social media. Some shared videos of themselves and their friends preparing to perform duets with the two judges.
It’s unclear whether the finalists will be able to sing their own original songs in addition to the duets. Though Ryan Seacrest did confirm that they will each have a song to perform on the show as well. Sheeran will also provide the finalists with a video message.
During her time on American Idol, Perry has faced her share of backlash from fans. She even had to apologize for comments she made about a contestant’s bedazzled outfit. She got booed by an audience in Hawaii when she advised a contestant to dull down her sparkly costumes.
After a few weeks of controversy, it seems that Katy Perry has finally taken her leave from the show. She will be leaving the series to attend a royal wedding in May and will be replaced by “big time” stars.
Sheeran and Morissette are slated to fill in for the judged competition while Katy and Richie are away, according to ABC. Both Sheeran and Morissette have toured with the singer, who is an ambassador for King Charles’ charity.
The drama turns American Idol into reality TV
The pair will be promoting the British Asian Trust and will also be helping to shine a light on child trafficking, a problem that has been raised by several contestants this season. They are also collaborating with the Prince’s Trust, which was founded by King Charles back in 2020.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce fully reimbursed New York City for all permit and public safety costs associated with their July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden, Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, Mamdani directly addressed questions about potential taxpayer expenses for the high-profile event. “Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” the mayor said. “And that was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself.”
